Handmade Christmas Day 10 Chapstick holder.

This Chapstick cozy is easy and quick to make and would make great gifts.

For this Chapstick holder keychain you will need:

2"width ribbon (I recommend ribbon wit wire)
Keyring
Sewing machine

First thing you will do is cut a piece of ribbon that is about 10" I used a ribbon with a wire this makes folding up edges for heming easy.

Fold top end over twice to make a clean edge

Put ribbon through the key ring and sew it

Fold the bottom up and sew to create a clean bottom edge

Fold bottom up about 2.75"

Sew the sides up I sewed right along the wire edge of the ribbon.

And you have a Chapstick cozy keychain.

Handmade Christmas Day 9 stump snowman

We cut down a bunch of trees in our backyard so we have a bunch of cut wood just sitting back there. I wanted to put one to use and make something. What I came up was Stumpy the snowman ( logman?). I am not really sure what to think of him he is kinda funny looking.

I used:

A log painted white
Rocks ( eyes and mouth)
Clothes pin painted orange (nose)
Fabric scraps (hat and scarf)
Fishing line (tied around hat to close top)
Pom pom
Buttons
Sticks painted white

Transporting Stumpy to the porch.

Day 7 Handmade Christmas

Bike Rim Wreath

We have had this old bike Rim just taking up space in the garage for some time I finally figured out some way to use it.

For this project I used:

An old bike Rim
Red spray paint
Garland
Ornaments

Start with an old bike Rim paint it the color of your choice wrap garland around the rim and hang ornaments on. I didn't glue anything on this as I would like to do something else with this rim once the holiday season is done and be able to change the wreath out for the seasons. The pinecone in the center is my son's touch.

Handmade Christmas Day 6 A Wood Snowman

It is snowing tonight so the boys will be excited to build a real snowman tomorrow. In the meantime though I made this cute wood snow man for our porch. I did this project pretty much on my own but it is simple enough for the kids to help with.

For this project I used:
A piece of wood that I painted white my wood was about 5" wide and 33" long.
Small medium and large pom poms
Buttons
Hat
Scrap of material for scarf.
Sticks
Glue
Fake snow if you don't have any real snow

Once my paint dried I put the snowman's hat on. I used an infant (3-6 month size) that I found in the winter clothes box that of course no longer fits either of the boys. I then glued on the face. I used large pom poms for the eyes and nose and small and medium for the month.
I then glued on his scarf and buttons and last his arms. I thought he would be cute in this pot that is on the front porch and since there wasn't any snow in it yet I sprinkled some fake snow in the pot with him.

Day 5 Sometimes You Fail

Day 5 project was totally a whim and sometimes that doesn't work out so well. So it started like this I had this snow stuff that I had gotten for another project. I had the thought that the kids would love snow globes. I had these plastic jars that some food had come in and were now gone. I got them all cleaned up scrubbed the labels off. Which by the way coconut oil works really for. Well I forgot that in a snow globe there is some kind of liquid that makes the snow fall all pretty our snow just kind of made a big plop all at once. I was thinking this would be a great way to use their little trees they made yesterday. While the display looks cute it doesn't snow. On top of the project really not working I got super glue on the the table and then some paper stuck to the super glue so today one project I am working on is redoing the table. On the bright side the globe still looks pretty and the table needed redone any way it is just getting done sooner now.

And last thought for now I think maybe I need to blog more writing this out it really doesn't seem like the big deal that it was in mind yesterday. Things really could have gone a lot worse.

Day 4 Pine Cone Trees

I loved this project because with what materials the boys were given there wasn't really any way it could turn out different than the perfect looking image of the the project in my head yet each one is different. Painting and glitter always seems to be a hit with them. A project is fun if it involves either, so they were happy to get to do both. This project was a win win.

For this project you will need:
Pine cone
Green paint
Gillter
Hot glue
Small pom pom balls

This one is fun and really pretty simple paint the pine cone green before the paint dries sprinkle on the glitter then glue on the pom pom balls.

Painting is pretty serious but fun!

Design or colored socks
Rice
2 rubber bands
Buttons
Coffee beans (eyes) and coffee bean crumbs (mouth)

12 days of Handmade Christmas

In the past I have done 14 days of Valentine projects with my kids and blogged about them. I have decided to try a 12 days of Handmade Christmas. Some of the projects will be kid projects, some will be projects I do and some will be handmade gift ideas. I am a little late getting this started but there is still time before Christmas right?

On The first Day of Handmade Christmas We made a paper plate showman countdown. The kids have been asking since Thanksgiving how many days until Christmas so we made a countdown so they wouldn't have to ask everyday.

For this project you will need:

A paper plate
large googly eyes
orange paper
felt cut in hat shape or a small stocking cap
Black marker
any embellishments you want for the hat
a brad ( I even had a little orange one!)
coffee beans or small rocks (optional)

Directions: Write numbers 1-25 around the outside of the plate, cut a triangle (carrot) from the orange paper glue on eyes and attach carrot nose with the brad glue on hat draw mouth or use small rocks or coffee beans my son just wanted to draw the mouth.
